What we are after
What actually happens? Where does it break? Why?
Almost every serious problem in healthcare and biology lives in the gap between how a system is documented and how it is actually run. The handoffs that go missing, the queue that quietly absorbs the delay, the decision made on incomplete information because waiting is worse. You cannot read your way to that. You have to be walked through it by someone who does the work.
Examples
- A gastroenterologist walks us through what really happens from referral to diagnosis to follow-up.
- A diagnostic lab operator shows how samples actually move through a lab.
- A researcher explains the real experimental workflow inside their lab.
- A clinic team maps what happens from booking through consultation and follow-up.

Formats
Where it is appropriate — and always with the participants' agreement — a session produces an anonymised Field Note or workflow map for the Field Library. Nothing identifying a patient, a clinician or an organisation is ever published.
